Rockstar has not announced an online mode for Grand Theft Auto VI. It calls the 19 November 2026 launch a single player experience, and Take-Two's chief executive said the same on 17 September 2026. No name, date, price or co-op is announced.

What Rockstar has said
Rockstar's pre-order Newswire post of 24 June 2026 says "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience, coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S". The PlayStation Store listing carries the same line.
Rockstar's game page mentions GTA Online only in the pre-order bonus. The free month of GTA+ is described as "a recurring monthly GTA$500,000 deposit into your GTA Online character's bank account". That is the GTA Online of Grand Theft Auto V, not a mode in VI. Rockstar has a support article on redeeming it.
We found no Rockstar page that announces an online mode for VI, or gives a date, a price or a subscription, or mentions co-op. Rockstar has also not said that none will ever come.
What the ESRB lists
The ESRB, the US ratings board, lists Grand Theft Auto VI as Mature 17+ for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, with one interactive element: In-Game Purchases. It shows no "Users Interact" element. The ESRB's listing for Grand Theft Auto V carries both. The ESRB's ratings guide defines Users Interact as "possible exposure to unfiltered/uncensored user-generated content, including user-to-user communications and media sharing via social media and networks".
That is consistent with a launch without online play. It is a rating board's description of the game as submitted, not a statement from Rockstar, and it does not say what a later update might add.
What Take-Two has said on the record
Strauss Zelnick is the chairman and chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company. Two of his comments this year bear on online.
On Take-Two's earnings call of 7 August 2026 he said the company does "expect to support" GTA Online "going forward", as God Is a Geek and PCGamesN reported. Neither report quotes him on an online mode for VI.
At the annual stockholders meeting on 17 September 2026 he said: "We're launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms, and therefore there's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch." Inven Global reported it on 18 September 2026, and added that he called GTA Online "a robust business" that Take-Two will keep supporting.
Both comments are about the launch and about the GTA Online that already exists. Neither says whether a VI online mode will follow, when, or at what price. We do not read one into them.
What GTA V did
This section is about Grand Theft Auto V, not VI. None of it is confirmed for VI.
| Event | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|
| GTA Online revealed, with access to begin on 1 October | 15 August 2013 | Gematsu |
| GTA V released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 | 17 September 2013 | Rockstar Newswire |
| GTA Online opened | 1 October 2013 | Grand Theft Auto Wiki |
GTA Online opened two weeks after GTA V, and Gematsu reported its reveal about a month before the game came out. The Grand Theft Auto Wiki calls it a standalone multiplayer title, considered a separate game by Rockstar, included for free with the retail copy of GTA V.
That order is a precedent, not a plan. Rockstar has revealed nothing comparable for VI.
Co-op, crossplay and cheats
Co-op is not announced. Crossplay is a feature of online modes, so it has no meaning until one exists: see will GTA 6 have crossplay. Cheat codes in an online mode are covered on do GTA 6 cheats work online. Dates, prices and editions are on GTA 6 editions, and every other claim we have checked is on the GTA 6 fact check.
Quick answers
Is there an online mode in GTA 6?
Not announced. Rockstar calls the launch a single player experience, and Take-Two's chief executive repeated that on 17 September 2026.
When is the GTA 6 online release date?
There is none. Rockstar has not announced an online mode, so it has not announced a date for one. The only date it has given is 19 November 2026 for the game itself.
Is there a GTA 6 online subscription?
None is announced. GTA+ is Rockstar's existing membership for GTA Online in GTA V, and VI pre-orders include a month of it.
Is there co-op in GTA 6?
Not announced. We found no Rockstar page that mentions co-op for VI.
Will GTA 6 have online after launch?
Nobody official has said. GTA Online followed GTA V by two weeks, but that is GTA V history and not a promise for VI.
