Nobody knows yet, and that includes us. Rockstar has published no download size for Grand Theft Auto VI, and on 19 September 2026 neither the PlayStation Store listing nor the Xbox store listing shows one. The first trustworthy number will most likely appear when pre-load opens on 12 November 2026.

The PlayStation Store listing for the Standard Edition gives a release date of 19 November 2026 and a price, and no storage figure. The Xbox store listing shows the pre-order bonuses and the two editions, and no approximate size. Rockstar's own game page and its support hub say nothing about storage at all.
Any specific gigabyte figure for VI that you see today is a guess, however confidently it is written. Screenshots that appear to show a store page with a size are easy to fake and several have circulated. Leaked build sizes exist; this site does not use leaks, and a development build size would not be the retail download size in any case.
What Rockstar published for its last two games
This is the honest context. It is not a prediction for VI, and the two games below were built for older consoles, but it does show the sort of number Rockstar publishes and where it puts it.
| Game and platform | Figure Rockstar gave |
|---|---|
| Red Dead Redemption 2, PlayStation 4 | 99 GB install, with 150 GB free needed to unpack the digital version |
| Red Dead Redemption 2, Xbox One | 107 GB install |
| Red Dead Redemption 2, PC | 150 GB of free disk space in the published system requirements |
| Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, PC | 105 GB on an SSD in the published system requirements |
| Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, PC | 125 GB on a hard drive in the published system requirements |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | Nothing published |
The Red Dead Redemption 2 console figures were put out on Rockstar's support site shortly before that game's launch in October 2018, and Game Informer reported them at the time. The PC numbers come from Rockstar's own system requirements articles, which are still up: Red Dead Redemption 2 PC system requirements and Grand Theft Auto V PC system requirements. Rockstar notes on the Grand Theft Auto V page that downloadable content and programming changes alter the requirements over time, which is part of why an install figure is never quite fixed. The same page lists two builds of one game with different storage needs, 105 GB for Enhanced and 125 GB for Legacy.
Worth reading from that table: the unpack requirement was half again the install size, and the two consoles differed by 8 GB for the same game. Whatever number VI turns out to be, expect the practical requirement to be higher than the headline.
When the real number should appear
Two moments, in this order.
- Pre-load opens at local midnight for digital pre-orders. This is the point at which the console itself shows the download size, because it has to. The details are on our pre-load page.
- Launch. Any day one patch lands on top of the pre-loaded file, and the total installed size becomes measurable for the first time.
A Rockstar support article could appear before either date, as one did for Red Dead Redemption 2. If it does, this page changes the same day and the figure gets a link to Rockstar rather than to us.
How to prepare without a number
You can do something useful now, without pretending to know the answer.
- Free up space this month rather than on 12 November. Deleting a large game takes seconds; downloading it again does not.
- On PlayStation 5, remember that a USB drive stores PS5 games but cannot run them. Sony's support page is explicit that PS5 game data has to be copied back to console storage before you can play. An M.2 drive fitted inside the console is the option that holds a game you can launch.
- On Xbox Series X|S, the Storage Expansion Card behaves like the internal drive. A plain USB drive is storage, not somewhere a Series X|S game runs from.
- Leave more headroom than the eventual figure suggests, because of the unpack pattern above and the unknown day one patch.
