Rockstar has not published unlock times for Grand Theft Auto VI. This page shows the local midnight pattern the storefront listings point to, every row labelled as expectation, and it changes the day Rockstar confirms a schedule.
Checked 19 September 2026. We update this page when Rockstar publishes more.

The expected pattern
One launch, many unlock moments. If VI follows the storefront listings, most regions become playable at midnight local time, so New Zealand plays first and Central America plays last, roughly nineteen hours apart. The exception matters: where a country spans several time zones the store appears to use one nationwide timestamp, which puts the unlock on the evening of Wednesday 18 November in the western United States and in Western Australia.
| City | Expected local unlock | Status | In your time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney, Australia | Thursday 19 November, 00:00 AEDT | Expected until confirmed | |
| Tokyo, Japan | Thursday 19 November, 00:00 JST | Expected until confirmed | |
| London, United Kingdom | Thursday 19 November, 00:00 GMT | Expected until confirmed | |
| Sao Paulo, Brazil | Thursday 19 November, 00:00 BRT | Expected until confirmed | |
| New York, United States | Thursday 19 November, 00:00 EST | Expected until confirmed | |
| Los Angeles, United States | Wednesday 18 November, 21:00 PST | Expected until confirmed |

On how digital unlocks have worked in practice: GTA BOOM has assembled the regional windows for VI from PlayStation Store listings across 63 countries and regions, counting fifteen windows over roughly nineteen hours running from the evening of 18 November to the morning of 19 November in UTC terms, and notes that Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 also had region dependent console launches rather than one simultaneous global release. Those listings are PlayStation only, and GTA BOOM credits the timestamps to Sony rather than to Rockstar. That is reporting on store data, not a Rockstar schedule, which is why every row above says expected.
Store listings change. A pre-order page can show a placeholder time for months and settle only in the final week. Check your own PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store page for the game close to launch, because that listing is what actually governs when your copy unlocks.
How Rockstar launches have unlocked before
When Rockstar publishes unlock times at all, it has done so on its support site rather than the Newswire, in the form of a per platform table close to launch. It published exactly that for Grand Theft Auto V on PC and for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition, though both of those support articles have since been retired and no longer resolve, so we are not linking them.
That still tells you where to look. The Grand Theft Auto VI support hub carries no unlock times article today: as of 19 September 2026 its Grand Theft Auto VI articles cover platforms and editions, pre-orders, the GTA+ month and the soundtrack album, and nothing else.
Two dates are worth holding on to as the only firm ones. Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on 25 June 2026, announced the day before on the Newswire. The launch is Thursday 19 November 2026, set out in the November 2025 Newswire post.
Pre-load
This part is official, and it is the one piece of launch timing Rockstar has actually published.
- Pre-load opens
- 12 November 2026, local midnight
- Who
- Digital pre-orders
- Code in box
- Available from 12 November
- Download size
- Not announced
- Unlock times
- Not published by Rockstar
Rockstar support states that digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading from local midnight on 12 November, a week before launch, and that the physical Standard Edition, a box containing a download code and no disc, is available from 12 November so the code can be redeemed and the game pre-loaded. See Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions, which is the article that carries the pre-load date, and the Newswire post of 24 June 2026, which says the same.
What is not known: the download size, whether a day one patch will be needed, and whether pre-load will be offered to anyone who has not pre-ordered. Rockstar has said nothing on any of the three.
What we will update
Four things, each one the moment its source publishes.
- Rockstar's own unlock times, if a support article appears. Every row above then loses the word expected and gains a link.
- The download size, from Rockstar or the store listings.
- Any change to the pre-load date.
- Any change to the launch date itself. It has moved twice, in May 2025 and November 2025, so it would be odd to pretend it cannot move again.
The full dated history is on the countdown page.
