How to enter cheats in GTA 6

Nobody knows yet. Rockstar has not said whether Grand Theft Auto VI has cheat codes, so there is no method to follow. This page sets out what is confirmed, and how Grand Theft Auto V did it.

Checked 2 October 2026. We update this page when Rockstar publishes more.

By Vicedex, an independent GTA 6 reference. How we check and report a mistake.

What is confirmed for GTA VI

Rockstar's game page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and a launch on 19 November 2026. It does not mention cheats. Neither does the launch date post on the Newswire, the pre-order post of 24 June 2026, or Rockstar's platforms support article.

So how a code is entered, or whether the game takes codes at all, is not announced. A table of GTA 6 button sequences today is a guess.

How GTA V did it

This section is about Grand Theft Auto V, not VI. It is the only evidence of how Rockstar handled this on console, and none of it is confirmed for VI.

On the controller

NME's guide says the easiest way on a controller is to input the code while walking around the world (NME). The sequence was made of D-pad directions and face and shoulder buttons.

On the in-game phone

PCGamesN describes the other route. Press up on the D-pad to open the phone, choose Contacts, and open the dial pad. The numbers are 1-999 followed by the dial pad digits for that cheat (PCGamesN). NME gives the same route in fewer words: bring up the phone with up on the D-pad, then enter the code.

1. Be in story mode, not GTA Online.
2. Press up on the D-pad to open the phone.
3. Choose Contacts, then open the dial pad.
4. Call the cheat's number.

On PC, the Grand Theft Auto Wiki says cheats were typed into an input bar opened with the tilde key (Grand Theft Auto Wiki). GTA VI has no PC version announced, so this is for context only.

Why a code can fail

Again, this is GTA V.

• The game refuses it. Rockstar's support page says some cheats are unavailable in certain parts of the game, and the game then shows "Cheat Denied: Cannot activate that cheat right now." (Rockstar Support).
• You are on a mission or in the wrong place. The Grand Theft Auto Wiki says a code can be denied on a mission or activity, in a restricted area, when certain other cheats are active, or when there is no room to spawn a vehicle (Grand Theft Auto Wiki).
• You used the other console's buttons. The same cheat had different buttons on each console. Red Bull's guide lists the invincibility code as Right, X, Right, Left, Right, R1, Right, Left, X, Triangle on PlayStation, and Right, A, Right, Left, Right, RB, Right, Left, A, Y on Xbox (Red Bull).
• You entered it too slowly. GTABoom's FAQ advises trying a button sequence very quickly if it does not register (GTABoom). That is advice from a guide site, not a Rockstar rule.
• You are in GTA Online. PCGamesN states that none of the cheats work in GTA Online (PCGamesN). See GTA 6 cheats online.

How an effect is switched off

Also GTA V. Rockstar's support page says entering the same code twice will usually, but not always, disable the cheat. It also says reloading a save or restarting the console resets all cheats (Rockstar Support).

Some effects ran out on their own. PCGamesN notes that invincibility lasted five minutes. The Grand Theft Auto Wiki adds that cheats could not be stored on the phone, so a cheat that wore off had to be entered again.

Entering a cheat also switched off trophies and achievements for the session. That has its own page: do GTA 6 cheats disable trophies.

What we will do on 19 November

We will try an entry method on a retail copy of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and write down exactly what we pressed and what happened. Until then the platform pages, GTA 6 cheats for PS5 and GTA 6 cheats for Xbox Series X|S, show 00 verified codes, and 00 is the honest number.
