GTA 6 Ultimate Edition and the mod shop

Rockstar's own edition comparison names two vehicle mod shops, Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's, and says each is "only open for business with the Ultimate Edition". The same line appears on a hair salon, a clothing store and a tattoo shop.

What Rockstar's page says, in Rockstar's words

The edition comparison on rockstargames.com/VI offers two editions, a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition, and lists every item against both. Five of the Ultimate Edition entries are places rather than objects, and each carries the same closing sentence.

• One-Eyed Willie's, labelled Mod shop. "This mod shop in Lake Leonida specializes in off-road modifications and hand-painted automotive artistry. Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition."
• Sara's Unisex Salon, labelled Hair salon. "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition."
• Stock 305, labelled Clothing Store. "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition."
• Electric Fang Tattoo, labelled tattoo Shop. "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition."

Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition overall as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action around every corner", and says its bonuses are "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter".

The two editions, item by item

Formats matter here. Rockstar support states the Standard Edition comes digitally or as a code in a box, that there is no physical Ultimate Edition, and that an Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought separately at any time by Standard Edition owners. On price, GTA BOOM puts the Standard Edition at 79.99 US dollars and the Ultimate Edition at 99.99, with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade at 20. Push Square, reporting on the day the editions were detailed, rounded the Ultimate Edition to 100 dollars, which is where the "$100 Ultimate Edition" in later headlines comes from. Rockstar's own page shows no price, so we quote the outlets rather than claim any figure as official.

What outlets reported, and what people said

This is where the official wording ends and the argument starts. Keeping the two apart is the point of this page.

GamesRadar reported the reaction under the headline "GTA 6 exclusive single-player shops and side missions are locked to the $100 Ultimate Edition, and fans aren't happy", quoting a fan describing it as a red flag. PC Gamer ran an opinion piece headlined "Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade". Push Square asked its readers whether the Ultimate Edition was a deal breaker. GTA BOOM counted four shops and two mission lines behind the upgrade.

Those are all real, and all attributable. What none of them is, is a Rockstar statement. Rockstar has not commented on the reaction, has not changed the wording on its page, and has not published anything further about the Standard Edition's contents.

What is not established

One claim travels further than the evidence, and it is the one in most headlines.

Two further things are unknown. Rockstar has not said whether these locations appear on the map for Standard Edition owners, and it has not said whether any of this content will be sold separately later beyond the Ultimate Edition Upgrade itself.
