Will GTA 6 have mods?

Not at launch. Mods for Grand Theft Auto games have always been a PC thing, Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar has not announced a PC version.

Checked 19 September 2026. We update this page when Rockstar publishes more.

The platform reality

Rockstar lists two platforms for VI, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, on its own game page and in Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions.

Rockstar's published position on mods, set out below, is written for its games in general rather than for one platform, and it grants nothing for consoles. There is also no console mod support to enable: on PlayStation and Xbox the player cannot reach or replace the files a mod would change.

So on 19 November 2026 there is no version of the game a mod could attach to. That is the whole answer. Everything else is about when, not whether.

The PC gap, on past form

Rockstar has shipped its last two flagship games on console first and PC later, both times.

Console to PC gaps for Rockstar's last two flagship releases, from Rockstar's own announcements.

Two data points are a pattern, not a promise. Take-Two's chief executive has explained the console first decision as serving the core audience, without committing to a PC date: "Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core", as PC Gamer reported.

There is no announced PC release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. Any figure you see, including ours, would be arithmetic on two old releases. We are not going to dress that up as a date.

What Rockstar has actually published about mods

The current statement is Mod Guidelines, dated 10 September 2026, in Rockstar's Community Resources. Note that the older support article often quoted as the policy, PC Single-Player Mods, no longer carries one: the page at that address is now a short pointer titled Policies and guidelines regarding Single-Player or Story Mode mods, which simply links to the Terms of Service, the Creator Platform License Agreement and these guidelines.

The guidelines are broader than the old wording. They are not limited to PC and not limited to single-player, and they cover "new or modified versions of Rockstar Games scripts, code, tools, maps, vehicles, NPCs, weapons, apparel, or other in-game assets". They are written as four things not to do: respect our games, do not infringe Rockstar or third-party IP, do not harm the creator community, and do not engage in unauthorised or abusive monetisation.

The restrictions that matter here. Do not expand or modify Rockstar's official storylines, plots, missions, characters or established continuity. Do not combine maps, characters or assets from one Rockstar title into another. "Multiplayer modding is limited to Rockstar Games' official licensed Creator Platform or else as otherwise licensed directly by Rockstar Games." Do not create, share or use cheat menus or other software that interferes with Rockstar's official multiplayer, online services or licensed Creator Platform. And unless permitted through that Creator Platform, "all modding must be strictly non-commercial".

Rockstar also states plainly that these guidelines "Are Not a License", that it does not endorse or sponsor any third-party mod, that it can revise the policy at any time, and that it reserves the right to take down any mod at any time for any reason. So modding is tolerated within limits, not licensed.

Two points on scope. Nothing in the guidelines mentions Grand Theft Auto VI. Consoles are mentioned once, and in the other direction: "Do not modify our games to operate on consoles, hardware devices, or other platforms where they have not been officially released by Rockstar Games." That is about porting Rockstar games onto hardware they never shipped for, not about allowing mods on PlayStation or Xbox.

Requests

People ask us for mod pages and cheat tables the game does not have yet. Those requests sit on the Most Wanted board on the homepage. The board is a list of what people want us to verify first. It is not a release plan, and nothing on it is promised.
