GTA 6 missions: how many and what is known

Rockstar has published no mission list and no mission count for Grand Theft Auto VI. The only length figure is one developer's 80 hour playthrough, which included optional content, so how many missions there are is not known.

What is confirmed for GTA VI

Rockstar's game page gives the story in a few lines. It centres on Jason and Lucia. An easy score goes wrong, and they are caught up in a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida, relying on each other to survive. That is a setup, not a mission list.

We searched the game page and the Only in Leonida page on 3 October 2026 and found no mission list and no mission count. Only in Leonida carries character biographies, which we cover at GTA 6 characters.

Rockstar's An Extended Look, posted on its Newswire on 27 August 2026. Game Informer described it as a long trailer made of a montage of story missions and open-world moments, and wrote that Rockstar "has yet to plainly detail the game's features". Footage is not a count.

The one length figure

Rob Nelson of Rockstar North told the New York Times that he played through the game in about 80 hours in February. As Insider Gaming reported, it was not a final build. GamingBolt reported that the run included "optional goals with narrative ramifications". So it mixes story and optional content, and it says nothing about how many missions there were. What GTA V counted

This section is about Grand Theft Auto V, not VI. None of it is confirmed for VI.

The Grand Theft Auto Wiki says GTA V has 69 story missions (Grand Theft Auto Wiki). Its trivia note adds that the in-game statistics and the Rockstar Games Social Club both say 69, but that the game has 79 main story missions, and that a player cannot play every mission in one playthrough because many depend on choices. A mission count depends on what is being counted.

GTABase says the story runs from the prologue to one of three endings. Missions were only part of 100 percent completion.

So story missions were a little over half. The other 45 percent was side content, which is why our 100 percent checklist exists. The miscellaneous tasks included collectibles (GTABase), covered in GTA 6 collectibles.

For length, CBR quotes HowLongToBeat player data: about 32 hours for the GTA V main story on average, and 80 to well over 100 hours for completionists (CBR, December 2021). That is player data, not a Rockstar figure.
